EA making Star Wars games for the next 10 years!

Exclusive rights for Star Wars Game License

+EA announced that the deal they made with +Disney, for making +Star Wars games, will last for 10 years! This is big news. EA is the biggest player in the gaming market. Or at least one of the biggest. But this deal means that EA has the right to make games based on the Star Wars-franchise. EA will not be making Star Wars movie-games.
It was already known that EA will be making Star Wars games but it wasn't stated for how long the deal would last. EA and Disney made the deal in may, after LucasArts was bought out. LucasArts was the company of the director George Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars movies.

Blake J. Jorgensen spoke at the UBS Global Technology Conference (see SeekingAlpha) and emphasized that EA may borrow things from J.J. Abrams but will not make movie-games not even based on the upcoming new Star Wars movie: Star Wars: Episode VII. Or any of the sequels. But don't be disappointed this only means that EA will be making fresh new games. A quote saying that EA will make "new games that we’re inventing around their content, around the broad Star Wars content, and around some of the new assets that they may produce over time as well". Earlier in the conversation Jorgensen talks about the broad Star Wars universe, which gives a lot of freedom in the creation of the game: "The beauty of the Star Wars franchise is that it's so broad and so deep, you don’t have to do a movie game, you can do a game that's very focused on the world that's been created around Star Wars."

As a result of the deal EA's Digital Illusions CE is working on a new Star Wars: Battlefront. Which should be hitting the market in 2015.
